Titus Andronicus, Rome’s greatest general, returns victorious from the wars. Upon arriving in Rome, he discovers the city in civil unrest, torn between the sons of the recently deceased emperor. The Senate informs him he has been elected emperor by the people of Rome. Titus rejects this honor, and his choices set in motion an avalanche of increasingly catastrophic and bloody reactions that lead to the inevitable gut-wrenching climax.
