Celebrating Community at the Chocolate Church

We are so excited to be presenting Yaya Agosto, “maestra” of the amazing tradition of Bomba. A dynamic blend of music, dance, and song, at the heart of Bomba is drumming. Children and adults can learn the basic Bomba steps. This will be a delight for all ages. You can watch and listen or dance to the rhythm if you so choose!
After will be Mica Farias Gomez, a singer/composer/dancer, hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her music explores pan-Latin folk pathways with roots foundations, layering hip-hop, electronics, and samples over candombe, murga, chacarera, flamenco, and other traditional forms. Accompanied by master percussionist Manu Uriona, you will love another offering of beautiful and celebratory folk traditions.
We will also be selling locally made empanadas and other afternoon refreshments.
Simultaneously from 3-5, we shine a spotlight on the incredible talents of a small handful of artists in the Chocolate Church Membership Community! We’ll be hosting a special Member Art Reception in our Main Space—a prime location that gives these exceptional creators greater visibility during our regular programming. The show runs through June 28th!
